about
Anna Albini is an Italian self-taught artist based in Milan.
After graduating in Law and working for many years in the legal field in Milan, she gradually developed an independent artistic practice centered on painting and drawing.
Her work explores figures, architectures, and landscapes suspended between memory, perception, and emotional projection. Through layered atmospheres, unstable spatial relationships, and reduced forms, her images emerge as fragmentary situations rather than fixed narratives. Figures often appear partially dissolved into surrounding environments, occupying spaces shaped as much by psychological tension as by physical structure.
Moving between intimacy and estrangement, presence and disappearance, Albini’s work combines gestural painting with areas of silence, instability, and suspension. Urban scenes, interiors, crowds, solitary figures, and landscapes become vehicles through which emotional and psychological states are explored rather than described. Colour functions less descriptively than emotionally, constructing fragile relationships between bodies, spaces, and memory.
Alongside the paintings, the drawings operate as a parallel and complementary practice. Through simplified forms and condensed situations, they explore social rituals, encounters, public spaces, and everyday scenes, revealing another dimension of the same imagined world that inhabits the paintings.
The relationship between figure and space is central to her work. Landscapes often become psychological landscapes; interiors become states of mind. She is drawn to fragile connections between people, to experiences of belonging and estrangement, and to the ways memory alters what we think we have seen. The works do not seek to describe events or convey fixed narratives, but to evoke situations in which memory, imagination, and perception overlap.
